Java Generics - Do We Need It?
Anonymous writes "Java Generics, the story about the little train that could. Do we really need to have template support in Java? I thought we all left the C++ world to get away from overly complex templated code that couldn't be maintained by anyone without a PhD in graph theory?"

As a consultant, I often get the welcome challenge of reviewing code and offering suggestions to make it perform better. Typically, performance problems center around poor design decisions by developers that have had enough high-performance computing experience. One thing I learned while doing high performance computing was the importance of not doing input/output until absolutely necessary.

Software Development Magazine
Many of you many remember Computer Language from back in the 80s. I remember it all to well as one of the first premium magazines dedicated to software development. Back then it came as a very large volume with in-depth articles about current languages and software paradigms.
The times have changed, though, and there aren't as many computer languages in use today as there were in the 80s. Remember FORTH or PILOT? Computer Language has changed its name to Software Development Magazine and has come back from extinction.

Ready for the .NET Revolution?
It looks like Microsoft has pushed a new technology onto its developers, and they seem to like it. Maybe some of you Java folks have started to see the marketing FUD, maybe not? Either way, .NET appears to be the platform of choice for Microsoft's software for a few more years to come. What do you think?
